Our Vision: A South African SETI system that is responsive to the needs of the nation.
Our Mission: To promote SETI and influence SETI policy in the interest of socio-economic growth.
Strategic objectives
To influence and catalyse quality delivery of SETI policy
To monitor and promote the health of the SETI system
To celebrate, recognise and reward excellence within the SETI sector
Structure
The NSTF comprises the following sectors:
Science councils and statutory bodies
Small, medium and large business and state utilities
Civil society and labour
Higher education sector
Government sector
Professional bodies and learned societies. The professional bodies and learned societies are represented by SETAG (Scientific, Engineering and Technological Societies and Allied Professions Group) which liaises with all sectors regarding professional matters.
Each of these sectors has one or two representatives on the NSTF Executive Committee (Exco).
Exco representatives are elected at a bi-annual Plenary Meeting.

Boyden Observatory
Boyden Observatory - a picturesque observatory just outside the city of Bloemfontein in South Africa, is certainly one of the most publicly accessible observatories of its kind. It has a long and auspicious history, dating back to 1889 when it was founded in Peru, South America, by Harvard University of the United States as the Harvard Southern Station. In 1927 the Observatory was moved to South Africa, to its current location known for its excellent weather conditions and atmospheric stability. The University of the Free State is in charge of the Observatory and it is managed by its Department of Physics.

ICTP International Centre for Theoretical Physics
Founded in 1964 by Abdus Salam (Nobel Laureate), the Centre operates under a tripartite agreement among the Italian Government and two United Nations Agencies, UNESCO and IAEA. Its mission is to foster advanced studies and research, especially in developing countries. While the name of the Centre reflects its beginnings, its activities today encompass most areas of physical sciences including applications. -
EPL Journal
EPL publishes original, high-quality Letters in all areas of physics, ranging from condensed matter topics and interdisciplinary research to astrophysics, geophysics, plasma and fusion sciences, including those with application potential. Articles must contain sufficient argument and supporting information to satisfy workers in the field, and must also be of interest and relevance to wider sections of the physics community.

iThemba LABS
Activities at iThemba LABS are based around a number of sub-atomic particle accelerators. The largest of these, a k-200 separated sector cyclotron, accelerates protons to energies of 200MeV, and heavier particles to much higher energies. Smaller accelerators at the Western Cape site are two injector cyclotrons, one providing intense beams of light ions, and the other, beams of polarized light ions or heavy ions, and a 6MV Van de Graaff electrostatic accelerator. Accelerators at the Gauteng site include a 6MV tandem Van de Graaff electrostatic accelerator and two low energy electrostatic accelerators for ion implantation and other surface science studies.
iThemba LABS brings together scientists working in the physical, medical and biological sciences. The facilities provide opportunities for modern research, advanced education, the treatment of cancers, and the production of unique radioisotopes.
